Vocabulario: cómo traducir tan/así

Podemos decir tan/así de muchas maneras diferentes...

Vocabulario: tan/así

So /səʊ/ significa tan, así, y se usa delante de los adjetivos:

SO + ADJETIVO (tan, así)
- I'm so happy today! - What are you happy about?	- ¡Estoy tan feliz hoy! - ¿De qué estás feliz? / ¿Por qué estás contento? / ¿De qué te alegras?
- He's so selfish!	- ¡Es tan egoísta!

Such /sʌt∫/ significa tan, tal, así, y se usa delante de los nombres (también precedidos de adjetivos) de esta manera:

SUCH + A/AN + NOMBRE SINGULAR (tan, tal, así)	SUCH + NOMBRE SINGULAR INCONTABLE O PLURAL (tan, tales, así)
- It's such a lovely day! (= Es un tal precioso día) ~~- It's a such lovely day!~~ - ¡Es un día tan precioso! / ¡Hace un día precioso!	- You've got such beautiful hair! ~~- You've got such a beautiful hair~~ - ¡Tienes un pelo tan hermoso! / ¡Qué pelo tan hermoso tienes!
- I've got such a headache. - Tengo tal dolor de cabeza.	- It's the perfect restaurant for such occasions. - Es el restaurante perfecto para tales ocasiones/ocasiones así/de este tipo.

Cuando queremos decir así en el sentido de como éste/ése o de este/ese modo usamos like this o like that:

LIKE THIS / LIKE THAT (así, como éste/ése, de este/ese modo)
- Guidebooks like this are very useful.	- Las guías así (= como ésta) son muy útiles.
- You're right. It's just like that.	- Tienes razón. Es exactamente así (= de ese modo) / Así son las cosas.

Cando queremos decir así de usamos this/that:

THIS/THAT + ADJETIVO (así de)
- It's a tiny little door. It's only this high.	- Es una puertecita minúscula. Sólo es así de alta. (= mostrando la altura con la mano)
- His new car is like that. It's that big.	- Su nuevo coche es como ese. Es así de grande. (= señalando un coche)

Para decir tan como dices (principalmente en frases negativas y preguntas) usamos that:

THAT + ADJETIVO (tan = tan como dices)
- It's a long journey. - It's not that long. It's only four or five hours.	- Es un largo viaje. - No es tan (= tan como dices) largo. Son sólo cuatro o cinco horas.
- The soup is disgusting! - Is it really that bad?	- ¡La sopa es asquerosa! - ¿Es realmente tan mala?

Aclaremos la diferencia entre so y such:

So + adjetivo	such + nombre
- That dessert is so good! ~~- That dessert is such good~~ - ¡Ese postre es tan bueno!	- That's such a good dessert! ~~- That's so a good dessert~~ - ¡Ese es un postre tan bueno!

En los ejercicios aprenderemos que grupo (musical) se dice band y, para evitar confusiones con otros tipos de grupos, usaremos una sugerencia:

- Es un grupo (musical) popular/famoso. - It's a popular band.
También añadiremos un nuevo nombre a nuestro repertorio:

Edward /'edwəd/ Eduardo
